Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s ex-aide, Bashir Ahmad, has dismissed claims that U.S. lawmakers proposed a visa ban on Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso due to his role in implementing Sharia law as Kano State Governor in 2000.

Ahmad, speaking on Thursday via his X platform, described the allegations as “insulting and unfounded,” emphasizing that Sharia is not a criminal framework and its adoption does not warrant punitive measures against any individual.

He further argued that linking the alleged visa restriction to Kwankwaso’s tenure undermines the legal and constitutional context in which Sharia law was implemented in Kano.
