Umar Ardo, promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has dismissed claims linking the proposed political party to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing the rumours as false and misleading.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Ardo said speculation that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was hesitant to register ADA because of Obi’s alleged involvement was unfounded.
“Yes, one of the allegations circulating is that ADA is Peter Obi’s political party and that he plans to join it. This is not true. Even assuming, without conceding, that Peter Obi is involved, he has every right as a Nigerian citizen to sponsor a political party,” Ardo said.
He emphasized that the promoters of ADA have complied with all legal requirements for registration but were disappointed by INEC’s refusal to grant approval. The group has decided to seek legal redress, which could extend to the Supreme Court if necessary.
Ardo added: “It really doesn’t matter whether we participate in this election or not. Our focus is on proving that we have met all legal requirements and that INEC’s refusal has no justifiable basis. The courts will determine the matter.”
The controversy underscores ongoing tensions in Nigeria’s political landscape, with ADA insisting on its independence and commitment to operating within the law.
