The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a power outage affecting several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following a scheduled maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In a notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, AEDC disclosed that TCN is carrying out maintenance work on transformers TR1 and TR2 at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation on Tuesday, February 4, 2026.

According to the distribution company, the maintenance exercise is expected to be completed by 2:00 pm and is aimed at improving service reliability and enhancing power supply to affected communities.

Areas impacted by the outage include Wuye and Utako districts, CITEC Estate, Idu Industrial Area, Coca-Cola, PESI, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nile University, Zhidu Community, Fafu Estate, and surrounding locations.

AEDC apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage, assuring residents that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to deliver improved electricity services.

“Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently carrying out maintenance on transformers TR1 and TR2 at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation today, 4th February 2026. This maintenance exercise, which will be concluded by 2:00 pm, is part of our continued efforts to enhance service reliability and improve power supply to your community,” the notice stated.

As of the time of filing this report, electricity had yet to be restored to the affected areas of Abuja.
