Nigeria’s Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, has refuted reports suggesting he collapsed and was flown to a London hospital for medical treatment.

The denial was confirmed by Kenny Okolugbo, Akpabio’s consultant on communications and strategy, who described the claims as “fake news” when contacted by reporters on Monday.

Okolugbo stressed that the online reports circulating on Monday alleging the Senate president was unwell and transported via private jet to London were entirely untrue, urging the public to disregard the rumours.

Officials close to the Senate president have maintained that he remains in good health and is attending to his official duties without disruption, reiterating that the viral reports were misleading.

The development highlights the ongoing spread of false information on social media, prompting calls for responsible reporting and verification before publication, particularly concerning public figures.

Akpabio’s office has yet to issue a formal statement, but aides have encouraged media houses and citizens alike to rely only on verified sources for updates regarding the Senate president’s wellbeing.
