Nigerian troops have neutralized 11 terrorists in a precision operation in Sokoto State, halting a planned assault on local communities in the North West. The offensive, part of Operation Fansan Yamma Strike, was carried out near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the success of the mission through a statement on its official Facebook page, describing the operation as a tactical engagement aimed at disrupting insurgent activities. The targeted area, Tara Village, is known as a critical corridor for terrorist and bandit movements.
“Acting on precise, credible intelligence, the strike team executed a well-coordinated ambush engaging the bandits in intense firefight,” the Army said. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of 11 terrorists, while several others escaped, reportedly wounded.
Troops seized a cache of weapons during the operation, including eight AK-47 rifles, five additional magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, further crippling the group’s operational capacity in the region.
The operation reflects ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to secure North West communities, which have been plagued by attacks from terrorist and bandit factions. Officials emphasized that intelligence-led interventions are key to preempting assaults and reducing civilian casualties.
Residents of Sabon Birni and surrounding areas welcomed the military’s intervention, noting that such actions restore a sense of security and deter future attacks. Authorities also reiterated the importance of community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
The Nigerian Army pledged to sustain pressure on criminal elements across the North West, maintaining vigilance to prevent further threats and ensuring the safety of vulnerable communities.
