The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of fast-rising comedian and skitmaker, Raji Samad Adetola, popularly known as Mr Sanku Comedy, who died in a fatal car crash along the Oyo–Ogbomoso road in Ibadan on Monday morning.
Witnesses said the vehicle he was traveling in lost control before crashing into a ditch, leaving him and a friend critically injured. Both men were rushed to Bowen Hospital in Ibadan, but despite frantic efforts to save their lives, doctors pronounced them dead a few hours later.
Sanku Comedy, who began his content creation journey in 2021, quickly built a loyal fan base with his witty skits and unique storytelling style. His comedy often blended humor with relatable everyday struggles, making him one of the emerging voices of Nigeria’s vibrant digital comedy scene.
The news of his death spread rapidly across social media, with shocking images and videos of the wreckage circulating online. Fans and colleagues flooded his comment sections with tributes, describing him as a talented entertainer whose creativity and humility made him stand out.
Nollywood actress, Funmi Awelewa, revealed on Instagram that she sent one of her students to check on Sanku at Bowen Hospital after hearing of the crash. According to her, he was initially said to be responding to treatment. “Despite my prayers against death, he eventually passed on,” she wrote, expressing heartbreak at his sudden demise.
The 2021 comedy breakout star was tipped by many as one of the next big names in Nigeria’s content creation industry. His untimely death at a young age not only robs the entertainment world of a rising talent but also highlights the deadly toll of Nigeria’s unsafe highways.
As tributes continue to pour in from fans, colleagues, and fellow skitmakers, Sanku Comedy’s legacy will live on through his body of work. What was once a budding career filled with laughter has now become a painful reminder of how fleeting life can be.
