Niger Delta activist Ann-Kio Briggs has demanded full disclosure of the terms agreed between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and President Bola Tinubu before the lifting of the six-month emergency rule in the state.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Briggs warned that Fubara risked losing credibility among Rivers residents if the details of his agreement with Tinubu remained secret.
“I think it’s not acceptable when politicians make these agreements over our heads; it’s like shaving the head of someone behind their back,” she said.
Briggs argued that communities in the riverine areas, from which the governor hails, had borne the greatest sacrifices during the political crisis and deserved to know what concessions were made in Abuja.
“We don’t know what the President has insisted on, we don’t know what was agreed upon, and where that leads the people of Rivers State. So, we need to know what was agreed on,” she added.
Her remarks come just days after Fubara returned to office following President Tinubu’s decision to lift emergency rule and dissolve the sole administration led by Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd).
Briggs insisted that transparency was essential if Fubara was to maintain the trust of Rivers people and avoid future political unrest.
