Police in Kano State have arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death following a quarrel over food.

The victims, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and Hadiza Tasidi, 65, were reportedly attacked on Thursday morning at their home in Kofar Dawanau Quarters.

Spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said Ibrahim, believed to have been under the influence of intoxicants, repeatedly stabbed the couple with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries.

The victims were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead. Their bodies were later released to relatives for burial under Islamic rites.

“On September 25, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m., a resident of Kofar Dawanau Quarters reported that one Mutawakilu Ibrahim, aged 30, had a quarrel with his grandparents over food. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies,” Haruna said.

Police confirmed the suspect has been taken into custody. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s homicide section for further investigation.

He assured the public that Ibrahim would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The killings have sparked shock and grief within the community, with residents describing the incident as “deeply disturbing and unprecedented.”
