The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a stern warning to officers under his command to desist from unlawful phone searches, extortion, and harassment, particularly targeting youths.

The police chief emphasized that such practices violate citizens’ rights and would not be tolerated. He further reiterated the ban on the use of unmarked vehicles and shuttle buses for patrol operations across the state, linking them to recurring complaints of intimidation and extortion.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, Danjuma stressed that any officer found culpable would face severe disciplinary action, while their immediate commanders would also be held accountable.

The CP also cautioned against the over-detention of suspects, insisting that constitutional provisions and global best practices must guide police operations at all times.

He directed all Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical Unit Commanders to closely monitor their personnel to ensure compliance with the directive.

Danjuma reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

He assured the public of the Command’s readiness to safeguard lives and property while upholding the rule of law.
