Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has launched a bold Guinness World Record attempt to cook the largest pot of jollof rice, aiming to use 250 bags of rice in a historic culinary feat.
The event, which began on Thursday at Eko Hotels in Lagos, attracted thousands of fans and supporters eager to witness another landmark moment from the record-breaking cook who gained global fame in 2023 for completing the longest cooking marathon.
In an emotional scene before the cooking began, Baci prayed with her mother, asking for strength, protection, and endurance during the challenge. Spectators responded with cheers, recognising her mother’s unwavering support as central to Hilda’s journey.
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote on social media.
Originally scheduled for Muri Okunola Park, the event was moved to Eko Hotels after overwhelming interest, with more than 20,000 people registering to attend.
The Guinness World Record attempt has stirred nationwide excitement, with many Nigerians celebrating it as another opportunity to showcase the country’s culinary pride on the global stage.
If successful, Baci will add the largest pot of jollof rice to her growing list of achievements, further cementing her reputation as one of Africa’s most influential chefs.
