Dangote Industries Limited has distanced itself from the truck reported to be involved in a fatal accident in Enugu on Wednesday, insisting the vehicle does not belong to the conglomerate.

The company, in a statement issued late Wednesday night, clarified that the truck bore no connection to its operations, stressing that it has been a frequent victim of false attributions whenever accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles occur in Nigeria.

Eyewitnesses had earlier reported that a truck allegedly “owned by Dangote” lost control, leading to multiple casualties. However, the firm maintained that preliminary checks confirmed the truck was neither part of its fleet nor operated by any of its subsidiaries.

“We sympathize deeply with the families of those affected in the Enugu tragedy. However, we categorically state that the vehicle involved is not ours. Unfortunately, the Dangote brand name is often wrongly attached to accidents simply because of our large presence in the transport and logistics sector,” the company said.

The industrial giant further appealed to journalists and the public to verify claims before publication, warning that misleading reports not only damage its reputation but also divert attention from ensuring justice for victims.

This denial comes amid renewed public scrutiny of heavy-duty trucks across Nigerian highways, following a string of recent accidents involving trailers. Road safety campaigners have demanded stricter regulations, compulsory driver certification, and enforcement of vehicle roadworthiness standards to prevent recurring tragedies.

Dangote Group assured Nigerians that it would continue to uphold strict compliance standards across its logistics operations while supporting regulators to enforce safety measures industry-wide. It also urged authorities to fish out the true owners of the Enugu truck and ensure accountability.
