The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has declared that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, can no longer be regarded as a member of the opposition party, accusing him of crossing political lines and attempting to destabilize internal structures.

Wike, during a live media chat on Monday, August 5, attempted to dictate terms regarding the PDP’s internal affairs and leadership decisions in the South South and South East regions. His comments, which appeared to challenge the legitimacy of the current leadership, drew sharp criticism from party stakeholders.

Responding in a strongly worded statement, CP-PDP Chairman, Obinna Nwachukwu, stated that Wike’s continued interference in PDP affairs is both “unethical and unacceptable,” especially as he has openly aligned himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Nwachukwu emphasized that the PDP is no longer under the control of individuals with “loud voices and selfish motives,” insisting that the era of political godfatherism is over. “Wike’s loyalty now lies elsewhere. He is an appointee of the APC-led government and cannot continue to wear PDP colors while dining with the opposition,” he said.

The group also urged Nigerians and party members to disregard Wike’s remarks, labeling him a “disruptive outsider” whose influence in the PDP has expired. “He cannot be allowed to hijack narratives or mislead the public. His recent utterances are nothing but political noise with no bearing on our party’s direction,” the statement continued.

Rejecting Wike’s reference to court orders affecting the party’s regional structures, CP-PDP insisted that the leadership in both the South South and South East has already been constitutionally and successfully established. The group reaffirmed its support for the current leadership, noting that the party is focused on rebuilding and preparing for future elections.

As tensions continue to rise between loyal PDP members and those perceived to have “jumped ship,” the CP-PDP’s statement may signal a broader move to formally expel Wike and assert the party’s independence from his controversial influence.
