Iyabo Ojo has made an emotional appeal to Nigerian music powerhouses Wizkid and Tiwa Savage to publicly join the ongoing fight for justice in the case of late singer Mohbad. Speaking during an Instagram livestream on Monday, August 5, 2025, the actress and activist argued that the silence of top-tier artists could send the wrong message to the younger generation who see them as role models.
She emphasized that Mohbad and many other young artists were inspired by the likes of Wizkid, Tiwa, Burna Boy, and Davido, noting that these superstars have a duty to protect the vulnerable voices in the industry. “They came from the slums like you. They admired you. They followed your footsteps. You cannot be silent now,” she declared.
Iyabo warned that the music industry cannot afford a repeat of the injustices that plagued legends like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba, who battled both label oppression and government crackdowns during their careers. She urged the new generation of A-listers to take a stand for transparency and protection within the music space.
The actress praised Nigerian youth for their boldness and creativity, saying, “Music is one of the gifts that has placed Nigeria on the world map. These children are making us proud globally. We can’t allow cults or toxic structures destroy them in their prime.”
Her passionate plea comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death nearly two years ago. Though Naira Marley and Sam Larry were recently cleared by a Lagos court for lack of direct evidence, many Nigerians, including celebrities, remain unconvinced.
Ojo, who has been at the forefront of the “Justice for Mohbad” movement, insists that the fight must go beyond social media trends and into structural reforms in the music industry. “We must not repeat history. This time, we must speak loud and clear,” she said.
The call is already generating massive traction online, with fans tagging Wizkid and Tiwa Savage across platforms, urging them to speak up and join the chorus for justice, transparency, and industry protection.
