Tears streaming down her face, Nollywood actress Evan Okoro has made a chilling public appeal, alleging life-threatening harassment from her estranged husband, Chibuzor Erifike. In a heart-wrenching video shared on Wednesday, August 7, 2025, the actress recounted a toxic marriage riddled with emotional abuse, financial manipulation, and terrifying rumours of a possible kidnap plot.

Evan, known for her bold screen roles, said the union that once appeared to be love had turned into a nightmare. “The shoe I took home is not my size,” she lamented. “When he came, I thought it was love. But this marriage is not working.” Her post sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and drew instant reactions from fans and fellow celebrities.

The actress accused Erifike of constantly demanding money from her business deals, including a recent advert she did in Lagos. “He got angry because I refused to give him the money,” she said, describing a growing pattern of entitlement and aggression. Okoro said his jealousy intensified after she posted pictures of a new home she built with her own earnings, sparking accusations and veiled threats.

Struggling to keep the situation private, Evan revealed she had tried involving his family, but nothing changed. “There’s no emotional connection, no peace, no intimacy. His people know everything,” she added. The situation worsened with suspicious rumours suggesting that Erifike could harm her or arrange a kidnap. “People are saying he wants to kidnap me because I posted the house. I started that house before we even met,” she revealed.

Fearing for her safety, Evan has now filed a formal petition with the police. “I’ve already reported this. I don’t sleep well anymore; the dreams are terrifying,” she confessed. Though the police are yet to issue a formal statement, her revelation has sparked fresh debates about abuse in marriages, even among public figures.

Fans have flooded her social media pages with messages of support, urging the police and human rights groups to take swift action. Several industry colleagues, including Destiny Etiko and Chacha Eke, have shared the video in solidarity, calling for protection and justice.

The disturbing allegations come amidst growing concerns about domestic violence and coercive control in Nigerian celebrity marriages. Evan’s cry for help now joins a long list of women asking not to become another tragic headline.
