Afrobeats megastar Davido has shared how the loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in October 2022 reshaped his outlook on life, music, and family—calling the tragedy “life-changing” and a turning point that still defines him.
Speaking with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido revealed that stepping away from the spotlight after Ifeanyi drowned at the family’s Banana Island home gave him the clarity to reassess his career path and personal priorities.
“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move going forward. It changed my life,” he said, adding that the period forced him to rebuild from the inside out.
Davido also expressed pride in how he and his wife, Chioma, navigated the darkest period of their lives. “I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we’ve got twins—they’re big and shouting everywhere,” he said with a smile.
The singer noted that their resilience has inspired countless strangers. “I know how many people randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times,” he explained, underscoring how grief transformed into a beacon for others.
Fans recall that the couple’s path from tragedy to renewed joy has been marked by both private healing and public milestones, including their lavish Miami white wedding earlier this month and the birth of their twins in 2023.
For Davido, the lesson is enduring: that even through unspeakable loss, life can evolve into something brighter. His story is now not just about chart-topping hits, but about survival, renewal, and the power to inspire far beyond the stage.
