FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has mocked the recently formed opposition coalition led by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, branding them as “mere content creators” with no serious political roadmap to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at an Abuja press briefing on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, Wike dismissed the coalition as a media stunt that holds no weight among Nigerians.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and powerbroker within the PDP, lashed out at his former allies, accusing them of deceiving Nigerians with slogans instead of offering workable solutions to the country’s challenges. He said the so-called Third Force alliance was nothing more than an “audio gathering of expired politicians” whose only impact is trending hashtags and social media clips.
“The likes of Atiku and Peter Obi keep coming together, every election cycle, not to win, but to trend. They’ve become professional content creators. If governance was based on YouTube views and X followers, they would’ve been presidents ten times,” Wike declared.
He stressed that Nigeria needed bold, experienced leaders—not what he described as “recycled promises repackaged in soft-filter graphics.” He went further to question what tangible contributions the opposition figures have made in the past three years, suggesting they “only remember the people when it’s time to post another coalition flyer.”
According to Wike, the opposition’s latest maneuver is an act of desperation, especially with the growing support President Bola Tinubu continues to garner despite economic challenges. He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the current administration, stating that “no amount of online noise will derail this government’s development strides.”
Wike warned the public to stop being swayed by sentimental campaigns filled with “propaganda and camera angles.” He advised the opposition to “go back to their drawing board and this time, draw something better than another failed merger.”
This verbal takedown has reignited debates across political circles, with supporters of Obi and Atiku firing back online. But for Wike, the battle line is clear: “The future belongs to those on the ground, not those chasing likes in the sky.”
