Legendary Italian coach Arrigo Sacchi has thrown his weight behind Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, predicting the Super Eagles star would be a transformative addition to Inter Milan if the Nerazzurri can seal his signing from Atalanta this summer.

Lookman, 26, is reportedly a top target for Inter manager Cristian Chivu following a blistering 2024/25 season in which the winger netted 20 goals and provided seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. However, Atalanta have rejected Inter’s opening bid, insisting on a transfer fee of €50 million for the highly sought-after Nigerian international.

Sacchi, who led Italy to the 1994 FIFA World Cup final and remains one of Serie A’s most respected voices, described Lookman as “dynamic, intelligent, and fearless on the ball,” adding that his versatility and work rate make him the ideal fit for Inter’s evolving attacking system.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest Inter are preparing an improved offer, hoping to outpace interest from fellow Serie A giants Napoli and La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid, both of whom have entered the race to sign Lookman.

The former Everton and RB Leipzig player has seen his stock rise dramatically since joining Atalanta in 2022. His performance in big games — including a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen — has positioned him among Europe’s top talents this transfer window.

Atalanta, known for developing world-class talent and selling at a premium, are under no pressure to sell but remain open to offers that meet their valuation. The club has already lined up potential replacements should Lookman depart before the close of the window.

Lookman’s potential move would mark a significant statement of intent for Inter, who are looking to refresh their forward line and retain domestic dominance after winning the 2024 Scudetto under Simone Inzaghi, now promoted to a technical director role.
