Excitement swept through the Imo State Transport Company (ITC) last weekend as workers received a long-awaited salary increment, marking the first significant pay rise for many staff members in over 13 years. The new salary structure took effect with the June 2025 payment, leaving workers visibly elated.

Employees expressed gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma and the ITC General Manager, Hon. Uche Obiozor, whose leadership they say has transformed the state-owned transport company. Staff who had previously earned as little as ₦9,000 now report new salaries ranging between ₦50,000 and ₦60,000, depending on their positions.

The atmosphere at ITC headquarters in Owerri has been described as one of renewed hope and dedication to service. Workers openly praised the governor’s people-oriented governance style and Obiozor’s pragmatic management approach, which they credit for restoring transparency, accountability, and staff welfare.

Ticketing officer Mrs. Ijeoma Edeh, who joined ITC in 2012, recounted how her salary had stagnated for years before gradually improving after Obiozor’s appointment in 2024. “From ₦9,000 to ₦23,000 and now ₦51,000… this is a miracle we’ve waited for,” she said, fighting back tears of joy.

Similarly, Mr. Amarachukwu Odu, Head of Courier and Logistics, confirmed that his salary nearly doubled, moving from ₦30,000 to almost ₦60,000. “Since I joined ITC, I have never seen this kind of salary review. This is real progress,” he stated.

Supervisors like Mrs. Roseline Onyeanuna and Mrs. Abiaziem Juliet also praised the wage increase, calling it “a new dawn” for ITC staff who had endured years of poor remuneration. Both women also commended the state government for entrusting Obiozor with the responsibility of repositioning ITC for greater efficiency.

Beyond salaries, staff highlighted other reforms under Obiozor, including the reactivation of moribund ITC parks nationwide, expansion of fleet capacity, and successful reconciliation of previously divided transport unions. Workers now say they are more motivated than ever to deliver quality service to Imolites and visitors alike.
