Terror returned to Southern Kaduna on Friday, July 5, 2025, as a police inspector identified as Donfa Chirtip was gruesomely murdered while returning from his farmland with his wife, Victoria Chirtip, who was abducted during the same attack in Kurmin Kare, Kachia Local Government Area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, noting that Inspector Donfa, attached to the Special Protection Unit Base 7 in Abuja, was ambushed on his motorcycle around 7 p.m. while riding back from the farm with his wife.
The officer’s lifeless body was later found by local residents and a joint security patrol team within a bush path in the community. He had a deep, fatal machete cut to the neck, indicating a brutal execution-style killing. His body was immediately transported to Doka General Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead and deposited in the morgue.
Residents told reporters that the couple had left for the farm early in the morning, unaware they were being tracked. By evening, they hadn’t returned home. A search party was formed only to make the chilling discovery of the inspector’s body, while his wife remained missing—believed to have been dragged away by the attackers.
Sources close to the community say no ransom demands have been made as of Monday morning, further deepening fears about Victoria Chirtip’s safety. Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are ongoing, with multiple security units combing the surrounding forests and abandoned routes in a bid to locate her and track the perpetrators.
This killing adds to the growing list of targeted attacks against security agents in Kaduna and its surrounding areas, raising concerns about intelligence failures and the safety of law enforcement officers even when off-duty. Local leaders are calling for immediate reinforcement in rural communities which remain highly vulnerable to armed groups.
As of press time, Kaduna Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan had not responded to calls or texts requesting official comment. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police Force is yet to issue a formal statement on the assassination of one of its own.
