Governor Hope Uzodimma on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, delivered a State of the State Address before the Imo State House of Assembly, declaring that Imo has entered a new phase of progress and socio-economic transformation. Speaking to lawmakers and guests at the Assembly complex in Owerri, Uzodimma said the past five years and six months under his leadership had repositioned the state for national and international attention.
Addressing a packed legislative chamber, the Governor cited the completion of over 120 roads, including the signature Owerri-Mbaise-Obowo-Umuahia Road set for commissioning by President Bola Tinubu in August. He also highlighted landmark projects like the Assumpta Flyover and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, which he described as key to Imo’s infrastructure renaissance.
A major point of the address was the announcement of a new Federal University approved for Okigwe with a N30 billion take-off grant from the Federal Government. Uzodimma thanked President Tinubu for the support, noting that such interventions have accelerated Imo’s development trajectory.
On economic performance, Uzodimma revealed that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) grew from N400 million in 2020 to nearly N4 billion by 2025. He also announced that the state’s debt profile had dropped from N259 billion to N99 billion over the same period, attributing the improvement to fiscal discipline and reform-driven governance.
The Governor listed other key achievements including the Skill-Up Imo Program which trained over 100,000 youths in digital skills, improvements in healthcare delivery, and the revitalization of the state’s civil service and public sector institutions.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, lauded Uzodimma’s performance, citing the Governor’s extensive infrastructural footprint and smooth executive-legislative relations. The Assembly passed a vote of implicit confidence on the Governor, following a motion moved by Deputy Speaker Amara Iwuanyanwu, which also included an endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term.
Dignitaries present at the event included members of the National Assembly from Imo State, federal ministers, traditional rulers, business leaders, and various community stakeholders, all applauding the Governor’s development agenda.
