Joy and pride filled the air across Owerri Municipal as youth leaders from the five autonomous communities of Owerre Nchi Ise extended heartfelt congratulations to Sir Mac Donald Ebere, PhD, on his recent appointment as Board Chairman of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology. The announcement, made earlier this April 2025, was widely celebrated as a well-deserved recognition of Ebere’s long-standing commitment to public service and national development.
The youth chairmen, representing Umuororonjo, Amawom, Umuonyeche, Umuonyima, and Umuihugba-Umuodu communities, described the appointment as a reflection of Sir Mac Donald Ebere’s exceptional leadership capacity, visionary thinking, and dedication to youth empowerment. In a jointly signed statement on April 7, the group praised Ebere’s consistency in championing programs that uplift the socio-economic well-being of Imo youths.
Leading the charge, Comrade Kingsley Sunday Anyanwu, Chairman of Umuororonjo Youths, hailed Ebere as a “trailblazer whose track record speaks volumes.” He noted that Ebere’s past roles, including his time as Imo APC Chairman and community development advocate, have prepared him for this new national responsibility. “His ability to drive sustainable change is what sets him apart,” Anyanwu stated.
Other youth leaders including Edwin Nkemakolam Okoro (Amawom), Chiwuike Uche (Umuonyeche), and Emmanuel Onwubiko Ndubueze Anukam (Umuonyima) echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Ebere’s reputation for integrity, transparency, and result-oriented governance. They pointed to his numerous youth mentorship programs and empowerment initiatives as a testament to his passion for human capital development.
Describing him as a role model, Comrade Onyewuchi Onuoha of Umuihugba-Umuodu Youths and Comrade Chima Akalonu, Apex Chairman of Umuihua Umuodu Youth Organization, expressed optimism that Sir Mac Donald’s tenure would usher in groundbreaking reforms and infrastructural advancements at the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology.
The youth leaders also emphasized that this appointment places Imo State, especially Owerri Municipal, in the national spotlight, bringing pride to the entire Southeast region. “Sir Mac Donald Ebere has proven that with vision and hard work, leadership excellence is attainable,” they said, urging him to continue being a beacon of hope and inspiration.
Concluding their message, the group called on other young people across Imo State to draw motivation from Ebere’s achievements. They expressed hope that his new role will not only transform the institution but also create more avenues for youth engagement in maritime education and technology development nationwide.
