Over a dozen establishments, including popular hotels, gas plants, lounges, and religious centres across Lagos Mainland, were sealed off on Monday, June 17, as the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) intensified enforcement against noise pollution and other environmental violations.

From Surulere to Ajangbadi and Okokomaiko, LASEPA officials stormed multiple locations, shutting down Admax Lounge, JC Wellington Hotel & Suites, The Levite Assembly, Lutana Lounge & Suites, Niger Villa, Kelwinson Hotel, Hotel De Bravo, Casco Gas Plant, and others. The agency also sealed eateries and superstores like Food Affairs and Nayon Superstores, citing persistent disregard for environmental standards.

LASEPA’s official X (formerly Twitter) account @LasepaOfficial confirmed the enforcement sweep, stating, “Several facilities were sealed to curb the menace and ensure sanity in our environment.” The crackdown covered Aguda, LASU-Iba Road, Ilogbo Road, Jakande, Ojo, and Agric Bus Stop, where community complaints had grown over blaring music, unregulated generator noise, and disruptive operations.

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, said the agency is escalating action against operators who flout state environmental laws. “This operation sends a loud message: we won’t tolerate behavior that harms the health and peace of Lagosians. Environmental noise isn’t just a nuisance—it’s a public health hazard,” Ajayi noted during a post-operation press briefing.

The agency stressed that many of the sealed businesses had received multiple warnings and abatement notices before the enforcement, but failed to comply. Some operators had even removed soundproofing materials or resumed loud activities after previous interventions, prompting this coordinated clampdown.

Residents of affected areas welcomed the move, with some describing it as “long overdue.” A Surulere local, Mrs. Veronica, said, “You can’t sleep past midnight here anymore. Every weekend is a party. I’m glad they’re finally doing something serious about it.”

LASEPA is urging businesses to undergo sound assessments, adopt soundproofing technology, and operate within acceptable decibel limits. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to a greener, quieter, and healthier Lagos, warning that more closures are imminent for those who fail to comply.
