Fiery political declarations rang out from Igbere on Tuesday, June 10, as Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, vowed that he is willing to lay down his life to secure electoral victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Speaking to a crowd of journalists at his country home, the former Abia State governor described his loyalty to the ruling party as “total and unquestionable.”

Kalu, who served as Senate Chief Whip from 2019 to 2023, said the APC remains a formidable force in the Southeast, especially in Abia North, thanks to what he described as grassroots support and consistent mobilization. “I am APC to the core. The party is strong in Abia North, and I’ll do everything—everything—to ensure we deliver President Tinubu in the next election,” he stated with visible emotion.

Highlighting Tinubu’s governance since taking office on May 29, 2023, Kalu insisted that the president’s achievements in infrastructure, fiscal reforms, and national security have earned the trust of Nigerians. “This man has been President for just two years, but the strides are there—road projects, removal of fuel subsidy, and tough but necessary economic policies. We must rally behind him,” he said.

Responding to critics who argue that Nigeria’s economy has worsened, Kalu emphasized that recovery takes time, noting that Tinubu inherited a battered economic structure from the Buhari administration. He expressed optimism that the naira would regain stability and purchasing power through Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, including the unification of foreign exchange rates and increased capital investments.

Kalu also dismissed rumors of a dwindling APC base in the Southeast, insisting that internal rifts are being resolved and that the party remains solid in Abia State. “Don’t be deceived by social media noise; real politics is done on the ground. We are restructuring our local chapters, and our presence is growing stronger,” he asserted.

On the 2027 elections, Kalu hinted that preparations are already underway to retake key seats, adding that the APC’s national leadership is engaging stakeholders across the geopolitical zones. “We delivered results in 2019 and 2023 under tough conditions. We’ll do it again, bigger and better. Tinubu deserves a second term, and we’re going to make sure he gets it,” he added.

The senator’s bold remarks have sparked political reactions nationwide, with some praising his loyalty and others questioning his judgment amid growing public dissatisfaction over the rising cost of living and energy inflation. Nevertheless, Kalu remains one of the most prominent Southeast figures backing Tinubu’s presidency, positioning himself as a central figure in the party’s 2027 strategy.
