Veteran journalist and rights activist, Kenneth Uwadi, has made a desperate public appeal for financial assistance as he battles a life-threatening heart condition and diabetes—two critical illnesses doctors warn could end his life within six months if urgent surgery is not carried out.

Uwadi, a fearless social commentator renowned for his exposés on corruption and human rights abuses in South-Eastern Nigeria, revealed on Saturday, June 15, 2025, that his health has deteriorated rapidly. According to medical reports shared on his verified Facebook page, the Imo-based journalist has been diagnosed with advanced cardiovascular complications that require immediate surgical intervention estimated at ₦3 million (approximately $2,000 USD).

The outspoken activist said his current financial situation, worsened by ongoing treatment costs and inability to work full-time, has left him with no option but to seek public help. “Doctors have told me clearly that I will not survive the next six months without heart surgery,” he wrote. “I’ve exhausted my resources. I am now pleading with Nigerians to help me live.”

Since 2007, Kenneth Uwadi has been a bold voice in Nigerian civic affairs. As a founding member of Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative (YARPTI), and an active member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Uwadi has consistently taken on powerful interests—writing opinion columns and investigative reports that highlight systemic injustice, abuse of power, and governance failure, particularly in Imo State.

Now in a cruel twist of fate, the very citizen watchdog who has fought for the downtrodden for nearly two decades finds himself relying on public goodwill. “I’ve spent my career defending others,” he said. “But today, I am the one who needs saving.”

For transparency and accountability, Uwadi has made his medical records, lab reports, and diagnostic videos publicly available on his Facebook profile. He has also encouraged private inquiries for those seeking direct verification and pledged to respond to all genuine requests for proof.
