A haunting Facebook post by Mathias Yogboh, a young Nigerian graduate, has gone viral following his tragic death in a suspected Fulani militia attack on Aondona community in Benue State. Yogboh, affectionately known as “Jagaban,” was a graduate of Religious Education from the University of Calabar.

On April 20, 2025, Yogboh posted: “Help me look for a better wife to marry before Fulani kill me, making me die as a childless person.” Weeks later, his fears materialized when he was reportedly killed during a violent raid by armed herdsmen, part of an ongoing wave of attacks that have continued to plague agrarian communities across Benue.

Local sources report that Yogboh was among several victims in the Aondona community attack. The incident is part of a broader pattern of violence in Benue State, where Fulani militias have been responsible for numerous deaths and displacements. In February 2025 alone, over 10 people were killed in various counties, and nearly 20,000 residents were forced to flee their homes.

Human rights activist Ukan Kurugh expressed sorrow over Yogboh’s death, stating: “He once shared his fears… now he’s gone. Not long ago, he voiced his deepest fear — the threat of Fulani terrorist herdsmen. Tragically, that fear became his reality. They took him from us. A voice silenced. A life cut short. A family shattered. Rest in peace, dear brother. You didn’t deserve this.”

The ongoing violence has had a devastating impact on Benue State. According to reports, Fulani ethnic militias have killed more Christians in Nigeria than Boko Haram. These attacks have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and the displacement of more than 2 million indigenous Benue residents. The Fulani terrorists seek to seize control of Benue’s fertile agricultural lands for cattle grazing and occupy the land to establish an Islamic state.

Despite efforts by local leaders to broker peace, the violence remains unabated. The failure of security forces to curb the attacks has led to growing frustration among affected communities. With thousands now homeless and livelihoods under threat, urgent intervention is needed to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.

Yogboh’s death underscores the urgent need for effective security measures to protect vulnerable communities in Benue State. His poignant Facebook post serves as a chilling reminder of the human toll of the ongoing violence. As the nation mourns his loss, there is a renewed call for decisive action to end the bloodshed and bring justice to the victims.
