The tragic death of 18-year-old Kasarachi Oduoma has sparked public outrage after she was struck and killed at Umuelemai Junction, Isiala Mbano, in a chaotic struggle for control of a moving vehicle between two police officers and a motorist.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the horrifying accident occurred on March 27, 2025, at approximately 8:15 AM. Oduoma, a young fashion and decoration apprentice, was standing by the roadside with two others, Eberechi Obieje and Agbim Uchechi, preparing to cross the street when a red Toyota Camry lost control and rammed into her, killing her on the spot. The motorist at the wheel allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled, while the two accompanying police officers swiftly took the car to the local division headquarters in Umuelemai.

A formal petition demanding justice has been submitted to the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, by Owerri-based lawyer Chijioke Onwubuariri, acting on behalf of the victim’s family. The petition details the reckless altercation between the officers and the driver that led to the fatal crash and calls for an immediate and thorough investigation.

Human rights activist Chidiebube Okeoma, speaking under the Stand for Humanity Foundation, decried the senseless loss of a promising young woman who was striving to support her struggling family. “Kasarachi Oduoma was full of life, pursuing a career to help her family escape hardship before this reckless and avoidable tragedy. We demand justice, and we will not rest until those responsible are held accountable,” he declared.

In response, Commissioner Danjuma has ordered the homicide division of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take charge of the case. The victim’s relative, Ikechukwu Osuji, has already given a formal statement at the SCID office in Owerri, reinforcing the family’s demand for accountability.

As pressure mounts on law enforcement authorities, civil society groups and residents of Imo State are demanding transparency in the investigation, fearing that those responsible may attempt to evade justice. Meanwhile, the victim’s father has moved her body to a mortuary as the family prepares for legal action.
