A dramatic scene unfolded at Nkwo Orji market in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State on Monday, April 28, 2025, when vigilant residents intercepted a vehicle suspected of being used in a kidnapping operation. Upon inspection, a 15-year-old girl was discovered hidden in the car’s boot, leading to the immediate apprehension of the suspects.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed pending investigation, attempted to flee the scene but were swiftly overpowered by the crowd. The timely intervention of local vigilante groups and market security personnel prevented the suspects from escaping, ensuring the safety of the rescued teenager.
The Imo State Police Command, upon receiving the distress call, dispatched officers to the scene. The suspects were taken into custody, and the victim was provided with immediate medical attention and counseling.
