Emotions ran deep as Nollywood star Funke Akindele opened up about her ongoing struggles since her separation from music producer Abdulrasheed Bello, a.k.a. JJC Skillz. Speaking during an emotional interview with Chude Jideonwo on Thursday, the mother of twin boys revealed she has been solely responsible for raising their children since the split, exposing what appears to be a complete lack of co-parenting support from her ex-husband.

The actress and filmmaker, who was the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2023 Lagos gubernatorial elections, revealed that her world came crashing down shortly after her mother’s death. She admitted to battling depression as she tried to process multiple personal losses while shouldering motherhood alone. “I lost my mum, my marriage crashed, politics didn’t work out, and I had to keep going for my kids. It was overwhelming,” she confessed.

Akindele and JJC Skillz tied the knot in 2016, and by 2018, they had welcomed their twin boys. But their fairytale ended in June 2022 when JJC took to Instagram to announce their separation. Although he claimed there were ongoing discussions about custody and business arrangements, the actress has now made it clear she’s been left to handle it all alone—both emotionally and financially.

Tearing up during the interview, Funke recalled the moment she broke down publicly after an online scandal falsely linked her to a controversial colleague. “That was my breaking point. I went live and asked them to leave me alone. People don’t know the weight I carry,” she said, referencing the harsh scrutiny she faced amidst her private battles.

She described how she has had to fight through grief and setbacks just to remain strong for her children and to continue working. “I couldn’t afford to mourn for long, I had to be strong. I had to keep earning, and I had no time to fall apart,” she said, echoing the strength many single mothers silently endure.

The 47-year-old, who remains one of Nollywood’s most successful and influential women, said she now chooses to protect her peace by focusing on her children and her career. “I’m doing it alone, but I’m doing it for them. They are my everything,” she concluded, sending a clear message to anyone questioning her resilience.

This interview has sparked massive reactions across social media, with fans and industry colleagues applauding her honesty and strength. Many are now calling out JJC Skillz to speak up or step up. As the video trends online, it becomes another reminder of how even the most glamorous faces battle storms behind the scenes.
