Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has initiated two lawsuits totaling ₦251 billion against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The legal actions, filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, stem from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of making unwelcome advances, even in the presence of her husband. In response, Unoma Akpabio filed a fundamental rights suit (Suit No: CV/814/25) seeking ₦250 billion in damages, asserting that the allegations have caused emotional and psychological distress to her and her children. She also filed a defamation suit (Suit No: CV/816/25) demanding ₦1 billion, claiming the accusations have tarnished her family’s reputation.

In a related development, Akpoti-Uduaghan has countersued, filing a ₦100.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and his aide, Mfon Patrick. She alleges that defamatory statements were made against her and published on social media, damaging her reputation.

These legal confrontations have sparked debates among various groups. The South-South Women Congress condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s behavior towards Akpabio during a Senate session, urging her to apologize or face sanctions.  Conversely, the Middle-Belt Vanguard criticized the alleged intimidation and discrimination against Akpoti-Uduaghan, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic principles and protect women in leadership positions
