Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho has shed light on his connection with Manchester United’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and their current head coach, Rúben Amorim.
The former Red Devils boss, who led United to three trophies between 2016 and 2018, revealed that he maintains a “good relationship” with Ratcliffe and has even been invited to his home on multiple occasions.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho also reflected on his past interactions with Amorim, who previously spent a week at United as an intern under his management in 2018. Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag in November, has struggled for consistency, securing just 11 wins in his first 24 matches in charge.
“He’s a good kid,” Mourinho said about Amorim. “Always very respectful to me. We had a good relationship for a few years. He knows I wish him well.”
On Ratcliffe, who is currently implementing significant cost-cutting measures at Manchester United—leading to 250 job losses and potentially 200 more—Mourinho admitted he is not deeply involved in the club’s internal affairs but praised the British billionaire.
“I know Sir Jim Ratcliffe. I’m not saying we are big friends, but we have a good relationship. I know him well. He invited me to his house a couple of times. I see him as a good person and a great businessman. Of course, I feel for some of the people that I know [losing their jobs], but hopefully, it goes in the right direction,” Mourinho stated.
