Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has admitted that his new role has cost him his personal freedom, describing it as the most challenging job he has ever undertaken.

Speaking at a book reading and signing event at the Capital Club, Victoria Island, Lagos, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives acknowledged that Tinubu’s relentless work ethic and deep understanding of governance have made the job even more demanding.

“Nothing in this world can prepare you for the role of Chief of Staff. First, you lose your freedom,” Gbajabiamila confessed.

He reflected on the stark contrast between his former position as Speaker, where he had the flexibility to take breaks when needed, and his current role under a hands-on president.

“As Speaker, you are your own boss. I could travel to cool off and return refreshed. But now, there’s a boss—one who is strong, knowledgeable, and even knows more than you. It’s a welcome development, but a tough one,” he added.

Gbajabiamila’s revelations have sparked discussions about the intense nature of political leadership in Nigeria and the immense pressure that comes with working at the highest level of government.
