Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has shared the painful story behind her decision to adopt a “gold digger” persona, recounting how a past relationship left her financially drained and emotionally scarred. Martins made the revelation while responding to fellow celebrity Veekee James, who recently spoke out about being used and financially exploited by her former partner.

On her Instagram page, Martins revealed she once gave her ex-boyfriend half of her salary for six months, believing she was supporting their future together. However, she later discovered that he was funneling her hard-earned money into another woman’s business, a relationship that ultimately led nowhere for him either, as the woman went on to marry someone else shortly after.

Martins didn’t hold back her feelings, writing, “I’m a lover girl and I go hard for people I love, but ever since they showed me ‘shege’ because of my kind heart, I don’t give a man a penny! I’m currently a gold digger with my full chest!” The actress’s admission comes as a caution to women who, like herself, may be prone to overextending themselves for their partners.

She added her voice to the growing conversation on social media about women being exploited in relationships, emphasizing that genuine love should not come with a financial burden or expectations of sacrificing one’s wellbeing.
