Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has clarified that Tinubu has never identified himself as the Minister of Petroleum. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Onanuga stated that Tinubu oversees the Petroleum Ministry, which is run by two dedicated ministers, with a primary focus on gas development.

“The President has never called himself the Minister of Petroleum; it’s the media that labels him as such,” said Onanuga. He noted that Tinubu’s approach emphasizes gas as Nigeria’s core energy resource, a shift in focus inspired by former President Obasanjo’s regret over his own administration’s lack of emphasis on gas.
