Court Orders Uzodimma to Stop Claiming APC Imo West Senate Ticket, Declares Okorocha Winner

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu issued the order on Thursday after ruling that Uzodimma did not win the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 18 and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Delivering judgment, the judge held that evidence before the court showed that former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha secured the majority of votes cast in the primary. He ruled that Okorocha should be recognised as the winner of the contest.

Justice Egwuatu subsequently ordered the APC to forward Okorocha’s name to INEC as the party’s candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

The ruling represents a significant development in the contest for the APC’s senatorial ticket in Imo West, where the party’s choice of candidate had become the subject of litigation.

The order also places the party’s nomination process under renewed scrutiny as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

Further details concerning the court’s reasoning, the parties’ responses and any possible appeal were not included in the report.
