The Lagos State Police Command has intervened to prevent a 19-year-old girl from taking her own life after she was scammed by a fraudster and abandoned by the man who impregnated her. The incident occurred in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the rescue on Thursday. He explained that officers from the Ikorodu Area Command responded to a tip-off from a concerned citizen about the girl’s suicide attempt.

“On June 29, 2024, around 2 pm, a concerned citizen informed police authorities about a young girl who was attempting to commit suicide by ingesting a harmful chemical,” Hundeyin said. “Officers were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they located the girl and prevented her from causing herself harm.”

After being rescued, the teenager explained that emotional distress had driven her to contemplate suicide. She revealed that she was impregnated by a man who subsequently refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy. Additionally, she had been scammed out of her earnings from her Point of Sale (POS) business, further exacerbating her emotional and financial struggles.

The young woman is currently receiving necessary psychological support, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in her predicament.

The police command emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and encouraged anyone facing similar challenges to seek help promptly.
