Operatives of the Yobe State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have arrested six suspected power cable thieves in Damaturu, the state capital.

The State Commandant of the Corps, Adamu I. Zakari, who disclosed this while parading the suspects in Damaturu, said the operatives nabbed them for stealing armoured cables worth N1.2 million behind the Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate in the metropolis.

He also said investigation further identified three other suspects in connection to the crime.

He noted that the suspects confessed that they had vandalised several transformers in Damaturu metropolis, notable among them were the ones at the federal polytechnic and at the Ali Marami Extension.

Similarly, he said that the residents of Nayi-Nawa Tsallake area of Damaturu also apprehended a 34-year-old Umar Mustapha of Lawanti ward while vandalising a substation and handed him over to the corps for necessary action.
