The Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu has been tasked to concentrate on improving security in the state.

Recent reports indicate a resurgence of kidnapping and other criminal activities in Calabar, the state capital.

Elder Samuel Chukwudi, an oil mogul, made the call at Zone Six, Headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Calabar.

Chukwudi said, “As more visitors and holidaymakers were being expected for the 32-day annual Calabar Carnival festival, Gov Otu should go the extra mile to beef up security in Calabar and parts of the state because, without it, fears of safety would continue to play in the minds of citizens, visitors and residents.

“When kidnapping and armed robbery continue to prevail, visitors and residents would be very scared.”

The businessman, however, alluded to the fact that the state government deserves commendation for tackling insecurity headlong in the last few months.
