The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Dung Tari, who was abducted after a party meeting in the council area, has spent 40 days in captivity.
Recalled that the PDP chairman was abducted on September 23, 2023.
The had reported that Tari was in his car answering a phone along the Bukuru expressway in Jos when some unidentified men in two Hilux vehicles blocked him around 1 p.m. and forcefully took him away to an unknown destination.
At a press conference, the state chairman of the party, Chris Hassan, accused the military of being responsible for the abduction, but the military denied any involvement.
As of the time of filling out this report on Thursday, some of Tari’s kinsmen who spoke to the correspondant in Jos on Thursday said the abducted PDP chairman was still in captivity.
The Chairman of Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation, Kuru District of Jos South Local Government Area, Mr Ezekiel Nyaku, who condemned the disappearance of the PDP chairman said, “We are really disturbed over the incident. Some of us thought that by now, his abductors would have freed him.
“It is now more than one month and nobody knows his whereabouts. We don’t know whether his abduction was politically motivated or not considering that he was abducted shortly after a party meeting.
The chairman of BECO in the Vwang district of Jos South LGA, Lowan Ishaku, also condemned the non-release of Tari more than one month after his abduction.
“How can you be happy when your person suddenly disappears without a trace? As a community, we are really worried about the development,” Ishaku fumed.
The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders, Solomon Mwantiri, said the association was making efforts to locate the whereabouts of the abducted party chieftain.
Mwantiri who called for the release of the party chairman without further delay, said, “I was in Abuja last two weeks concerning the matter, and I served some letters to the offices of Defence Intelligence, National Intelligence Agency, National Security Adviser and the Department of State Service.
“Only two days ago, I was reliably informed that he (Dung Tari) is in DSS custody in Abuja. But no one has seen him nor did we know why they abducted him and kept him in captivity for more than one month. I will let you know if I have new information on the matter.”
