The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP has petitioned the Nigeria Judicial Council, NJC, over what it termed unremarkable remarks against the party and its Kwankwasiyya followers during the delivery of judgement on the Kano governorship elections, by one of the judges.

Justice Benson Anya was quoted to have said in his submission at the Tribunal that, “rather than allow some politicians to cause violence and banditry in Kano, it is better to use justice to stop them”.

The Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, Hashimu Dungurawa, alleged that the remark is a clear fact that justice was denied the NNPP based on sentiments but not because they did have a case.

The NNPP stalwart vehemently objected to such language, which, he stated, was unbecoming of a Judge and defender of the law.

“Of course, the indecorous, libellous and outright condemnable comments credited to the panel and especially those portions where Justice Benson Anya went beyond his judicial bounds of immunity and acted as if he is an interested party in the matter by casting aspersions on the leadership and members of NNPP, are spurious, regrettable, uncouth and based on sentiments.

Hashimu Dungurawa said, “We are taking our petition to the NJC Against Justice Anya and his remarks and we shall see whether he is right to use personal sentiments and quash our victory and also wants justice on this”.
