Kano State governor-elect, Abba Kabir has warned local government chairmen to abide by financial regulations and guidelines.

He warned them not to be used to siphon public funds to finance the forthcoming supplementary elections in the state.

This was stated by the incoming administration’s transition committee chairman, Baffa Bichi.

He said the warning to the 44 local government chairmen and their management became necessary in the public interest.

The committee urged them to refrain from engaging in the alleged round tripping of public funds between their councils and the state ministry for local governments.

According to him, “I am advising you not to allow yourselves to be used as conduits for siphoning public funds to finance the forthcoming supplementary elections in some state and federal constituencies of the State.

“You must therefore strictly comply with all relevant financial regulations and extant guidelines.”

He noted that the statement served as a caution to all local government officials to avoid actions that may result in the mismanagement of public funds.
