Former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has urged the electorates to resist the same faith ticket in the forthcoming general elections, noting it would encourage divide and rule.

Aliyu who stated this while receiving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku/Okowa presidential group at his residence in Minna said the Muslim -Muslim ticket is a taboo to Nigeria’s Unity.

He argued that Muslim candidates as President and Vice President will no doubt be described as a time bomb to the unity of the country and amount to injustice, lack of fairness and equity.

The former governor said Nigeria consist of two major religious faith, Christianity and Islam, and such tendency will throw the country into more chaos considering the circumstances, we found ourselves in the past seven years”

“As a nationalist, and a Muslem, such is a sentiment that would encourage divide and rule without a sense of reasoning and respect for Christians and pleaded with all well meaning Nigerians to reject the same faith ticket in its entirety,” he maintained.

Aliyu called on members of the Atiku/Okowa support group to intensify efforts at educating Nigerians, especially the electorate on the need for religious tolerance in its practical terms.

According to him, as a Muslim, I would not have thought of voting for anything like Christian/Christian ticket and I wondered why the ruling party would ever conceive what they would not take if presented to any of them individually or collectively”.

“And, anybody who is supporting same faith ticket, be it Muslim or Christian, does not mean well for Nigeria because doing so only amounts to promoting; injustice, lack of fairness and equity for adherents of other religions”.

Earlier, the leader of the group led by, Hassan Bagudu thanked Dr. Babangida Aliyu for his active support of the Atiku/Okowa campaign organisation not only in Niger state but across the country.

He also expressed hope that Nigerians would make the right choice by voting the PDP come February, 2023 in the general elections while calling on the former governor to work for the success of the party both at State and presidential elections.
