The Enugu State Police Command has revealed that a manhunt is ongoing to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums that attacked commuters along Ugwuogo-Nike/Opi/Nsukka road on Sunday, taking many people hostage.

The command disclosed this in a statement via a tweet.

Some travellers were attacked along Ugwuogo-Nike/Opi/Nsukka road on Sunday, and an unknown number of them were kidnapped, an incident that has become frequent along that road.

Despite the presence of several police and army checkpoints along the same road, stories of kidnap have become frequent.

A source who did not want his name mentioned alleged that the incident was the handiwork of the notorious Fulani herdsmen.

The command said the rescue operation was personally led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, adding that it is combing the forest to arrest the hoodlums.
