The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has threatened to initiate a new process of enforcing and recovering unremitted tax deductions owed by some states and local governments.

In a public notice signed by Muhammad Nami, executive chairman of the FIRS, the agency said it would advise the federal government and the ministry of finance to reject requests for external and domestic loans by defaulting states.

The agency also threatened to name and shame defaulting states and local governments.
