Former U.S. President George W. Bush says Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a result of no checks and balances on Vladmir Putin.

Bush said this in a speech during an event in Dallas on Wednesday, describing the invasion of Russia by Putin as “brutal” and “unjustified”.

“The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia, and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Ukraine,” Bush said.

The former U.S. President also compared Volodymyr Zelensky to Britain’s wartime leader Winston Churchill.

Bush’s remarks have since gone viral on social media, gathering criticisms.

Recall that Bush as the President in 2003 led an invasion of Iraq over weapons of mass destruction that were never found.

The prolonged conflict killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced many more.
