Stop borrowing to save Nigeria’s future – Journalists tell Buhari

Journalists under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have cautioned President Muhamadu Buhari against further borrowing of loans from foreign agencies.

The journalists noted that this advice is necessary in order to save the future of the country.

DAILY POST recalls that Buhari had last week written to the National Assembly to approve another $4 billion and €710 million external loans.

But, NUJ Oyo State council while reacting noted that continuous borrowing is dangerous for the future of the country.

It noted with dismay the continuous borrowing culture of President Buhari.

The union, in a communique issued at the end of its September congress, then cautioned the President to desist from this unbecoming culture, which may affect the country in the future.

The union also condemned the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria and called on the Federal Government to urgently address the issue.

It called on the governors in the southwest states to secure the borders of the region against bandits and terrorists fleeing the Northern states.

The union, in the communique made available to DAILY POST on Monday, called on the security agencies not to relent in their efforts at tackling the security challenges in the state.

“The union also noted with dismay the continuous borrowing culture of Mr. President, Muhammed Buhari,” it said.

“The union, therefore, cautioned the President to desist from this unbecoming culture, which may affect the country in future”.
