According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, 645 persons have died from Covid-19 with more 16,401 others still living with it in Nigeria.

Nigeria has recorded 28,711 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 11,665 discharges and 645 deaths according to NCDC, leaving Nigeria with the third highest caseload in Africa and fiftieth in the world.

NCDC reported 544 new cases for July 5, 2020 with Lagos at the top with 199 cases followed by Ebonyi and Oyo with 65 and 47 cases respectively.

Others are Ondo-46, Ogun-31, Edo-30, FCT-28, Katsina-25, Plateau-15, Bayelsa-11, Kaduna-10, Adamawa-10, Akwa Ibom-8, Gombe-7, Kano-4, Taraba-3, Rivers-2, Abia-2 and Ekiti-1.

In Africa, 7,224 persons out of the 244,805 cases of Covid-19 have died with 114,120 of them recovering.

South Africa with 196,750 confirmed cases, 3,199 deaths and 93,315 recoveries is the worst hit in Africa followed by Egypt with 75,253 cases, 3,343 deaths and 20,726 recoveries,

Nigeria is followed by Ghana, Algeria, Morocco and  Cameroon in Africa, while globally sandwiched by Armenia (28,711 cases) and Ireland (25,527 cases).

Meanwhile, Madagascar who were initially rumored to have found a cure for Covid-19 have placed the capital city Antananarivo on lockdown as a result a surge in cases in the area.

With less than 300 cases when the alleged cure, Covid Organics was declared safe by President Andry Rajoelina, the Eastern African country has now seen 2,941 cases, 32 deaths and 1,108 recoveries out 24,530 persons who were tested for the virus in the country.

In recent times, World Health Organization have said that the true Covid-19 situation Africa could be worse if the continent should prioritize testing and ahead of a second wave of the virus across the world, there have been fears Africa could be badly hit.

Globally, there have been 11.4 million confirmed cases of Covid-19, with United States of America contributing 2.93 million of that at the top of the case table.

Brazil is second with 1.6 million cases followed by India (697413, cases)  who recently overtook Russia (687,862 cases)

Peru – 302,718 cases and Chile – 295,532 cases are ahead of United Kingdom – 285,416 cases.

More than 500,000 persons have died from the virus globally with the USA being the worst hit with more than 132,000 deaths.
