Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria is to establish a Domestic Gas Project in Imo State, its Managing Director, Mr.Osagie Okunbor has disclosed.

Osunbor made the disclosure when he led a delegation of the company to a courtesy visit to the state governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.

He said, “Nigeria needs domestic gas to aid its industrial needs and Imo State is key to achieve this feat.

According to him, Imo State is endowed with huge gas deposits, stating that more than three million cubic of gas is domiciled beneath the soil of the state.

He said Shell is committed to working with host communities to make the project a huge success.

Responding, Governor Emeka Ihedioha advised oil companies to take advantage of the significantly improved Ease of Doing Business in the state since his administration came on board, to invest and develop the oil and gas sector in the state.

Governor Ihedioha said his administration is committed to the development of the sector, stating, Imo State holds the ace in oil and gas production.

He urged Shell to set up its office in Owerri and expedite action on an MOU with the state government.

The governor called on Shell, Seplat and Walter Smith to jointly construct quality access roads in their host communities such as Assa to Umuapu, Assa to Avu roads.

Governor Ihedioha also called on Shell to also consider qualified Imo youths for employment.

He stated that the state government will soon constitute a committee on oil and gas that will serve as an interface between the State government and oil companies in the state, to be chaired by Engr.John Ottih.
