The committee constituted by the executive Governor of Imo State, Rt.Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to investigate the corrupt practices in the affairs of Local Government administration the State from 2011 – 2019, under the Chairmanship of Chief Eze Duruihoma, has debunked the publication made in Announcer Express newspaper of 4th November by ALGON Imo State.

The said publication held that the Constitution of the committee by the governor is illegal, as members are card carrying members of PDP, stressing that members of the committee have various offences hanging on their necks with EFCC and that the tenure of the former Chairmen are still subsisting.

The committee the debunked the publication through a press release read by the Secretary of the committee, Dr. Ken Uzoechi during a Press briefing organized in their office in Owerri on Friday.

They said that the committee was set up by the governor in exercise of the powers vested on him by Law No 15 of 2000(as amended), stating that the committee is made up of eminent sons of Imo as no member of the committee has been or is under investigation by EFCC.

They further stated that the tenure of the former LGA Chairmen is outside the purview of the committee terms of reference which essentially is to investigate the corrupt practices of former Local Government Chairmen in Imo from 2011-2019.

The investigation committee described the contents of the publication as lies and distortion of fact in a clear attempt to distract the committee, their duties with zeal, fairness and equity.

They disclosed that their committee had extended invitations to the actors in the Local Government administration during the period under review through letters, radio announcements and Newspaper advertisements and that the invitation is still open for the ALGON led by G.T.O Mgborokwu and his group of former LGA Chairmen to avail themselves the opportunity to defend themselves of various allegations.
