The Rotary Club is committed to bettering the lives of people around the world, according to Rotn Chima Ewurum, the Publicity Chairman of Owerri, RI District 9142.

Rotn Ewurum who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State, said the District ably led by Rotn. Dr. Nneka Ewenike has shown commitment to bettering the lives of people in Imo State through their life-changing educational and empowerment programmes.

He stated that since the inception of the Rotn. Dr. Ewenike on the 29th of June 2019 as the 41st President, District 9142 has been repositioned further to make more life changing impacts than ever, citing the gifting of five wheel chairs to indigent men and women who had difficulties in moving around on the installation day of the President.

“So far, our programmes are designed to educate and empower. We educate the general public on life-changing and life-threatening issues around them and we also provide every needed materials that will ensure the goals of the programmes are achieved”, he said.

Rotn. Chima Ewurum revealed that for the year, the chapter has mapped out programmes in the area of Peace Building and Conflict Prevention; Disease Prevention and Treatment (Kick-Out Malaria); Breast Cancer Awareness; Provision of Clean Water to a needy Community; Maternal and Child Care; Basic Education and Literacy Campaign; and Economic and Community Development.

“In July we had special programmes to mark the World Hepatitis Day at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Orji where 160 people were tested after an awareness programme”

“We also had a similar programme at World Bank Area ‘M’ where the Health Committee led by Rotn. Dr. Sebastian Okwu screened 140 persons for Hepatitis B and C”

“Eight people tested positive in both programmes and they were counseled on treatment. We have more of these programmes and we’re not stopping here yet”, Rotn. Chima Ewurum said.
