There are indications that the people of Owerri Nchi-Ise may be gradually becoming unease with the presentation of the Imo My Pride Bill on the floor of the State Assembly following suspicion that the bill could be a guise to relocate Ekeukwu Owerri Market.
The bill which has already passed first reading, is expected to facilitate the continued enhancement of the beauty of Owerri Capital City when finally passed into law.
However, there is growing concern on the part of some residents of Owerri especially, indigenes of Owerri Municipal that the bill may be a subtle design to empower the government with the legal wherewithal to finally relocate the embattled Ekeukwu market.
Speaking to Assembly Round up in a telephone chat Tuesday, an indigene of the area and Majority Leader of the Imo House of Assembly, Hon Lugard Osuji said the bill which has the member for Aboh Mbaise State Constituency as Chief Sponsor, has just been presented to the House and that debate on the bill would commence during second reading.
Hon. Osuji added that the details of the bill would also come to public knowledge during the second reading while assuring that he would also make his position known at that stage.
Meanwhile an elder of the community who spoke to Assembly Round-up on condition of anonymity disclosed that the Owerri Nchi-Ise community was already in the know about the development and had made representations to the appropriate quarters reminding them of the pendency of the matter in court.
